Meet Kristy

Hello, my name Kristy Magner and I am so glad you are here. Over the past 20 years, I have been a higher education leader at selective, private institutions and large, public universities. Working with thousands of students, faculty, staff, and parents from the U.S. and abroad has given me deep insight into the student experience in and out of the classroom, the university admissions process, and the logistical needs that students have when settling into life on campus. I am currently based in New Orleans, Louisiana, the city that I have called home for 14 years.

Before forming Magner Consulting, I was the Director of the Office International Students and Scholars at Tulane University. I have extensive international living and travel experience, having resided in India and Mexico, and traveled to over 20 countries. Scroll down for snapshots!

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University, and a Masters of Science in International Studies from North Carolina State University.

Professional development is very important to me so that I can deliver the best possible services to my clients. I am an Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association and a member of NAFSA. During my time working in international education, I was involved in leadership within NAFSA at the local, state, regional, and national levels.

Separate from my professional work, playing and listening to music is a huge part of my life and, before covid, I hosted an annual music festival at my house. During the pandemic, I created a music series fundraiser to benefit New Orleans musicians.

I grew up moving frequently, attending 11 different schools before college, and living in rural areas, urban areas, and multiple regions of the U.S. I also have extensive international living and travel experience, having resided in India and Mexico, and traveled to over 20 countries.

Between my unusual upbringing and my time working with U.S. and international students, I know well the challenges and rewards that come with moving to a new place and I enjoy helping students pursue their goals and make the transition to college as successfully as possible!
